Hi! I curated an art show! Here's some stuff about it.

This is the invite that J Penry drew, which I am ever-thankful for!

Click here for a pdf of the show's press release. (There's a big typo. Can u spot it?)

And here's a link to the gallery website: www.smith-stewart.com

All the artworks are on the gallery's website, but I thought I'd stick 'em on here too,

for posterity you know...

Marlene McCarty, Anointed: Beeville, Texas, 2007
graphite, ballpoint and watercolor on paper, 35" x 55".

assume vivid astro focus, Butch Queen 5 (Le SportSac), 2005

Rob Pruitt, Under The Cherry Moon, 2007

Acrylic and oil on foil panel, approx. 30" x 36".

(PS: You can't see it here, but there is a tiny unicorn

sticker on there. It looks like it's perched on a little

pink cliff, right in the middle there, under the moon.)

Jen DeNike, Up, Down, Strange, Charmed, Top, Bottom, 2007

Two-channel video, 10' loop, edition of 5.

Hrafnhildur Arnardottir, Hairy Moon, 2007

Meredith Danluck, Revolution: Triptych, 2006

Needlepoint in three parts each, 19.75" x 24" each

(detail)

Nicole Eisenman, Little Boy Walking Big Dog, 2007

Oil paint and mixed media on wood, 17 x 18.5 in.

agate, blue lace agate, amazonite, amethyst, calcite, garnet, jade,

natural topaz, quartz, rose quartz, tourmaline, cord, hair, saliva,

blood, 35"x 25"x 5".

(This is a stained glass piece with crystals embedded in it. We hung it in the window and it looks so

nice with the light coming through it. Pictures don't do it justice.)

Dana Carlson, What Cats Think About, 2006

Embroidery, beadwork, applique, and paint on peach satin, 32" x 25".

27 x 38 in.

Michele O’Marah, Stop Sign, Skip's Room (Valley Girl Prop),

2002, Rag paper and sharpie marker mounted to sintra,

19.5" x 19.5" & This is not a DEVO poster (Valley Girl Prop),

2002, Construction paper mounted to sintra and string, 9" x 18".

(Note: These are props form Michele's video where she remade

Valley Girl in it's entirety, but in this really minimal way. It's one

of my favorite art films ever!)

Wow, installing an art show is hard work. It took about 6 hours, and it was grueling, even though I

mostly just stood around saying, "Yeah, uh-huh, that looks great there."

"Lower, lower... Wait, wait--higher. There. Stop! Wait, now lower again..."

I dunno why my camera was being so grainy... but here are some grainy installation shots for you!

The opening... it was hot and humid and drizzling, but lots of people showed up anyway and I was

so happy. It was about 500 degrees in the gallery so I alternated between sweating and being rained

on the whole time.

Rob and Jim, two of the greatest artists of all time!

Jen brought me unicorn underpants from Sweden. Thanks!

Me and Amy S.S., the kind lady who made this all happen.

I look so gross and shiny here but remember--it was super hot!

Anyway it's the only picture of me from that night and I want to

remember the cute cat dress I'm wearing cuz I love it.

Look at these cute girls! That's my friend and trusty cat-babysitter Alison on the right.

Brett.

Congrats to the newly wed Jeff!

Wendy and Jim.

Marlene and cute friend.

Patterson and Bob, who is the whole reason this show even happened in the first place. Thanks Bob!

Jess and Erin.

The Heartschallenger girl came in her incredible pink ice cream truck! (I just filmed an upcoming

episode of The Cute Show about her!)

And wore really pretty shoes with grandpa socks. So cute, so gutsy!

Ramona in front of the Heartschallenger.

Jonny and Ian stuck it out till the very end...

Thanks to everyone for coming!!!!!!!

The show is still up until July 28 in case you feel like stopping by!

PHEW!
