Soundtrack: "Brandy (You're A Fine Girl)" -
Looking Glass
(This is my new favorite song. It's so embarrassing, my music taste has
officially taken a massive
nosedive. I've been listening to it on repeat for hours, for days. I
seriously can't get enough of it!
It's now at the top of my "most played" list on iTunes, beating out
"With Arms Outstretched" by
Rilo Kiley and "Suzanne" by Nina Simone by a margin of one play.
Scarily, "Baby Mama" by
Fantasia Barrino comes in at a close fourth, and Belle & Sebastian
doesn't even come in until #13!)

Speaking of cool music, Brian on the left gave Brian on the right a
sweet Gang Gang Dance t-shirt--
size 4XL and lookin' awesome!

Casts are pretty good too. Me and Abby were the first ones to sign
Jodie's and we were honored!
(Even though she wouldn't let me draw Garfield, pff!)

Went to see Growing at Tonic. It was cool but I missed Lizzi's band
which was a bummer. So, the
band's on and everyone's standing perfectly still with their eyes
closed, like, "absorbing" the music or
whatever, feeling the heavy drone vibes, you know, man, and then
Damhave just busts out with some
rad spazzy dance moves and I was psyched! My hero of the night. More
dancing at psych-drone
shows please!

Another good thing to do at heavy shows, for the ladies: Sit on the
speakers and feel the vibezzzz!
It's good stuff!

Thalia getting in on the hot speaker action.

Wishing I was seeing Looking Glass instead!. Heh heh. No offense to the
band, really--like I said,
my music taste is the pits. It's just all AM Gold for me from now on.

Ryan dragged me out to Misshapes on Saturday night. I stopped going
when I realized the median
age there was about 17. I hadn't been there since they moved the party
over to Don Hill's. They got
some creepy-ass decor over there, huh?

I dug this kid's Dolly Parton tattoo.

Then Sunday I went to the Dead Meadow show in the McCarren Park pool.
More shows! I guess
I keep going to shows so I can try to revive my good music taste. (It's
not working.) Anyway, it was
pretty fun there, even though it's kinda brutal hanging out on a giant
concrete slab in the 100-degree
heat. The bands play in the giant empty pool and they have a slip 'n
slide thingy and a special area
where you can watch sweaty, shirtless indie rock boys play dodgeball, I
mean, if you're into that
sort of thing.

Ivan, Mike and Meredith huddled up against the wall to enjoy the only
sliver of shade in entire damn
place.

Thalia's got other ways to stay cool...
Her eyes could steal a sailor from the sea...
